Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. :: essays research papers
To inspire a shared vision you must have certain qualities. You have to make a shared sense of destiny with people. You have to give life to that vision, and you have to make it appeal to the masses. These are only a few ways to recruit other people to your beliefs. Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was capable of these things and he inspired millions of people worldwide. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. His parents were the Reverend King and Mrs. Martin Luther King. He had a sister and a brother. As a child he would play in his front yard with two white boys. The boysââ¬â¢ father owned a general store in the neighborhood, so naturally they knew each other since they were small. One day, the King children went to the store to meet the boys, but that day was different. The boys said that they werenââ¬â¢t allowed to play with black kids. This was Martin King Jr.ââ¬â¢s first encounter with segregation. He didnââ¬â¢t understand it, but once he did, he swore that he would change the world. King buried himself in studies to be as well educated as possible. At the age of 15, King graduated Booker T. Washington High School and was accepted into Morehouse College. After graduating college he went to Crozer Theological Seminary. He joined the Baptist Ministry on February 25, 1948 when he was 19 years old. In 1951, he was accepted to Boston University. While there, he met Coretta Scott, and they got married in 1953. Shortly after, they moved to Montgomery, Alabama. On June 5, 1955 he received a doctorate of philosophy in systematic theology from the Boston University. Soon after he earned his doctorate, King learned of Rosa Parks and a bus boycott. This was his first calling to fight against segregation. On December 5, 1955, he was made president of the Montgomery Improvement Association, making him the official spokesman for the boycott. In November of 1956, the Supreme Court ruled bus segregation illegal. This raised the morale of black people in the U.S. There was now proof that they could obtain equal rights. The struggle began, but King was using a new method. He practiced non-violence in his boycotts and marches. King formed the Christian Leadership Conference in 1957. This conference would discuss ways to fight for equal rights without violence.

Health Care Marketing Analysis Paper
Marketing for Health Care Lydia Wooten Health Care Marketing Analysis HCS/539 November 26, 2012 Debra Schrager Health Care Marketing Analysis Planned Parenthood has been established since 1916. That was created by women named Sanger, her sister, and friend that created a birth control clinic. They develop Planned Parenthood for the reasoning on fighting for women's health, rights, and equality. The company stood for each right of individual to have control of his or her fertility regardless of income status, marital status, race, age, nationality, or sexual orientation. Sanger incorporates the American Birth Control League, an ambitious new organization that embraces the global issues of world population growth, disarmament, and world famineâ⬠(Planned Parenthood, n. d. ). Planned Parenthood provides many services on reproductive health services and for reason they are the largest in the U. S. including cancer screening,à HIVà screening and counseling, contraception, andà abortion. Other health services may not offer family planning as Planned Parenthood does and they help serve a large proportion of women.Planned Parenthood helps care, test, and treat a large part of the population including teenagers, men and women. Several corporations and media are against the organization for reasons but Planned Parenthood believes they are the help, face and voice for the people who need counseling or aid. Throughout this paper I will describe how product, pricing, place, and promotion are important to the establishment of Planned Parenthood. Product Planned Parenthood is design for a health services to assist anyone whether young, male or female and assist them in many areas. Some of their services are checkups for reproductive or sexual health problems, infertility screening and referral, routine physical exams, vasectomy, and prostate cancer screenings along with many more services. Women who are seeking specialized health services have the opportunity to rec eived their services which include contraceptionââ¬â¢s which can be birth control or morning after pill, abortions, screening, testing such as HIV/AIDS or any other sexual transmitted disease, pregnancy testing, prenatal care, infertility, and general health care.Pricing Planned Parenthood offer affordable services to all that seek health care service. The price will vary based on the type of procedure that will be neededà such as abortion range from $350 to $485. One good option that Planned Parenthood offers is a service where it is little or no cost that depends on the family size or the income of the patient. ââ¬Å"Planned Parenthood works to make health care accessible and affordable. Some health centers are able to charge according to income. Most accept health insurance. If you qualify, Medicaid or other state programs may lower your health care costs (Planned Parenthood, 2012). For instance, if a single parent makes less than $2,522 per month it is possible there health service can be low cost or even free because of the low income due to cost of living. For patients who qualify for free services include birth control, pap smears, emergency contraception, and sterilization. Another reason why Planned Parenthood Price is free or low cost than other health services because they rely on donations from other avenues.Planned Parenthood receives one-third of its budget, $300 million, from the Federal Government from US taxpayers (Parker, 2008). Place Planned Parenthood is national known and they have over 77 locations throughout the U. S. and just recently they are global. ââ¬Å"There are 77different independent local affiliates that operate over 800 health centers around the United Statesâ⬠(Planned Parenthood, n. d. ). Each health facility offers different services due to regulations that some health clinics may offer and it could be illegal at other clinics such as abortions. Planned Parenthood offers Information for teens at the clinics. There is counseling for the teens which allows them to understand certain changes that occurs with their bodies as well as support and which gives them extra guidance if they were to get pregnant or decide to have an abortion. Each clinic also has a counselor who is available to help those patients overcome difficult times or understand why things are happening to them. The employees are trained to help with all type of health services and counseling methods to help the patients understand the organization but also to help the organization to understand the patients. Promotion Planned Parenthood is promoted by Action Fund engages in educational and electoral activity, including legislative advocacy, voter education, and grassroots organizing to promote the Planned Parenthoodâ⬠(Planned Parenthood Fund Inc, 2012). Planned Parenthood is advertising with billboards all around the U. S for their services, Internet access for the new generation, and publishing commercials on television to help export their services to help create new patient clientele. Another major promotion Planned Parenthood is established is the Susan G Komen breast cancer foundation. There foundation has recently joined together with Planned Parenthood to promote the importance of breast examination and early cancer detection. Another promotion tool that was recently used was during the debates from both candidates on prochoice or choice for the status on Planned Parenthood. The marketing tool has promoted in rural areas where majority patients who are without health insurance or low income families normally live. Marketing and Partnerships Planned Parenthood has partnered with the girl scouts where they appeared on NBC Today Show and show their support for the Organization (Beckman, 2012).Just recently Planned Parenthood is joining with MTV and Kaiser to raise awareness on STDs to the youth. Interesting fact for the campaign that they encourage people of all ages to get themselves tested on STD s which was called get yourself tested (GYT) (Planned Parenthood, 2009). Planned Parenthood made a great move with Partnering with MTV so the advertising can direct their attention on young adults and teenagers which were marketable. MTV is an advertising tool that focuses on those who live in rural areas or people who are undecided on what is the best health care service to partake in.Target Market Prior till now, Planned Parenthood focused more on communication to the public by advertising and by helping the black communities in the United States. Most of the Planned Parenthood in America clinics was strategically put in place that is located in black neighborhoods and schools. Since the Federal Government is responsible for one-third of the funding for Planned Parenthood, advertisements that are in federal buildings are vital to the success of Planned Parenthood. The majority of the federal buildings are set up for programs that deal with citizens in poverty. This becomes another good reason for the use of Planned Parenthood advertising in such buildings. Planned Parenthood offers little to no cost medical care and services for those who may not have and need some type of health insurance. They also offer tools for parents to better help them communicate with their teens about sex, and other life-changing decisions. With these tools, parents can help build their own relationships with their teens.Understanding the target market will help any organization to find the right type of organizations to collaborate with as well as to discover different ways to promote and marketing campaigns directed to their target market. Conclusion Planned Parenthood has continued to offer different birth control options to many women in need for over 95 years. They also offer a wide variety of services for men and not just women as well. They provide preventative care, testing, and treatments of STDs for teens and adults.Planned Parenthood has recently been in the news due to t he loss and regain of funding and promotion of the Susan G Komen Foundation. Planned Parenthood has also been a part of the presidential campaign and debate to whether abortion should be allowed or not. Planned Parenthood strives to help people who are at or below the poverty level by offering their services at little to no cost. Planned Parenthood has also targeted the youth population with the recent GYT campaign where they teamed up with MTV to promote testing for STDs. Planned Parenthood has made a name for itself, whether it has received a good or bad name.Regardless, many people have used the services that Planned Parenthood has to offer. References Beckman, B. Immortality Through Verse in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Sonnet 18 and...
Immortality Through Verse in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Sonnet 18 and Spenserââ¬â¢s Sonnet 75 Desiring fame, celebrity, and importance, people for centuries have yearned for the ultimately unattainable goal of immortality. Poets, too, have expressed desires in verse that their lovers remain as they are for eternity, in efforts of praise. Though Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Sonnet 18 and Spenserââ¬â¢s Sonnet 75 from Amoretti both offer lovers this immortality through verse, only Spenser pairs this immortality with respect and partnership, while Shakespeare promises the subject of the sonnet immortality by unusual compliments and the assurance that she will live on as long as the sonnet continues to be read. Spenser debates with his lover, treating her as hisâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Contrastingly, the woman is temperate, therefore she never exhibits extreme behavior comparable to the sun (Ray, 10). Once Shakespeare concludes speaking about the Summer metaphor, he begins the third stanza with a contradiction to support the fact that the woman is not as temporary as a Summerââ¬â¢s day or even as a mortal human. Widening the scope of the sonnet from day to Summer and now to Death (Vendler, 120), he purports that her eternal Summer shall not fadeâ⬠¦Nor shall Death brag thou wanderââ¬â¢st in his shadeââ¬âshe will continue to be fair and young. Shakespeare continues the metaphor of the womanââ¬â¢s eternal Summer, meaning her beauty and youth, and contends that she will not die, for in eternal lines to time thou growââ¬â¢st. The personification of death reinforces Shakespeareââ¬â¢s desire to defeat Time and Death at their own war game (Felperin, 130); by writing these lines, he is securing this special piece of time in eternity. In the ending couplet, Shakespeare uses seemingly ambiguous language to express his belief that the woman will achieve immortality through the timelessness of his sonnet. He asserts that as long as people read his poems, she will live because this gives life to thee. This assertion corresponds

Physics of Basketball - 640 Words
Physics takes part in our everyday lives without us even recognizing it. In simple every day functions like when we walk, how our vehicles function properly, and even how we play sports. We go on each day with no recognition of physics until it is pointed out to us. The concept of physics is the study of fundamental structures and interactions in the physical universe. We learn physics to get a better understanding of the universe and the objects in it (Ostdiek). Now, that I have given you a brief description of what physics is and why we learn it, I am going to tell you how physics applies to shooting a basketball. Shooting a basketball is a simple concept. All you do is align your feet towards the goal, put the ball in place, and then shoot; easy right? Not exactly, just because you do these steps does not mean you will get a perfect shot every time and make the basket. First, were going to start with setting the shot up with a dribble, most players can shoot off of the dribble. When dribbling a basketball a shooter releases the ball towards the floor with a force that makes the ball come back into their palm. When the force of the ball goes toward the floor with different speeds it causes the ball to have a different velocity which can make the ball come back into the dribblers hand much quicker. We can also look at dribbling through energy. When a shooter is holding the basketball it has potential energy. Upon the balls release to the floor, the potential energy isShow MoreRelated The Physics of Basketball Essay1466 Words à |à 6 PagesThe Physics of Basketball The NBA playoffs are making the headlines all over. Public School Versus Home School - 1066 Words
Public School versus Home School Public School versus Home School Over the years people have debated which one is a better education system for children, whether it is public school, or home school. Most of this can be discredited because of the study of Dr. Thomas Smedley, who conducted a study utilizing the Vineyard Adaptive Behavior Scales test, which identifies mature and well-adapted behaviors in children, where home schooled students ranked in the 84th percentile whereas public schooled students were only in the 23rd percentile. On average, government schools spent $6,500 per student every year and private schools spent $3,500. It is in the business of leather goods, fashion apparel and accessories which it designs, develops, markets and also retails. The company has 63 Oroton stores (Finance.Yahoo) The company also operates another brand called GAP under which it sells fashion apparel. There are 7 GAP stores. The company has its presence in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Financial Analysis A financial analysis of the above two companies was conducted and the financial performance of Kathmandu Limited has been compared to OrotonGroup. Ratios under all categories including profitability, liquidity, solvency and activity have been calculated and compared to determine the overall financial performance of both the companies. Kathmandu Limited Oroton Limited Year 2014 2015 2016 2014 2015 2016 Profitability Ratio Net profit margin 10.7% 5.0% 7.9% 6.6% 2% 2.5% Activity Ratio Asset turnover 1.00 0.98 1.01 2.03 1.88 2.04 Liquidity Ratio Current ratio 2.64 2.90 1.79 2.09 2.86 3.02 Quick ratio 0.25 0.42 0.2 0.75 0.95 0.72 Cash conversion cycle 176.6 days 169.1 days 113.2 days 118.8 days 185.9 days 159.4 days Capital Structure Ratio Debt ratio 0.15 0.16 0.11 0.00 0.10 0.00 Net Profit Margin It is the profit which is left after deducting all business related expenses from sales. This profit is available to shareholders. The net profit margin has decreased from 2014 to 2016. This is because of huge costs incurred in inventory clearance in 2015 (Limited, 2015) This led to lower margin sales and also increased operating costs further declined the profits. However, the margin has improved in 2016 with an increase in sales due to product newness and better promotional activity. Also the operating costs decreased leading to a strong result. Kathmandu Limited has far better margin as compared to OrotonGroup in all the three years. The profits of Oroton have decreased significantly in 2015 owing to increased purchasing costs due to weak Australian dollar and also opening of lower margins GAP stores (OrotonGroup, OrotonGroup Annual Report 2015, 2015) In spite of weak Australian dollar, Kathmandu Ltd has higher margins. Asset Turnover The ratio measures the efficiency with which the company is utilizing its assets to generate sales. The ratio has remained more or less constant in all the years for Kathmandu Limited. The ratio is nearly 1 which means the company is generating 1 dollar revenue for every dollar invested in assets. Oroton has better asset turnover ratio of around 2 in all the three years. This means it is utilizing its assets in a more efficient way to generate sales. The efficiency can be said to be twice than that of Kathmandu. Current Ratio It is the ability of the company to pay for its short term obligations from its current assets. It is a liquidity measure of the company. The current ratio was higher than 2 in 2014 and 2015; however it has fallen below 2 in 2016 for Kathmandu. This is because of a decrease in current assets owing to a decrease in inventory. The company has implemented a demand planning software due to which the levels of inventory have reduced. The current ratio of Kathmandu is lower as compared to Oroton and the ratio has increased over the years for Oroton. Oroton has fewer liabilities as there is no short term borrowing and also the inventory levels have decreased in 2016. Quick Ratio Quick ratio is the ability of the company to pay for its current liabilities from its quick assets which can be converted into cash within 90 days. Kathmandu limited has very low quick ratio and the ratio has reached its lowest in 2016 as liabilities have increased more than assets. This is because inventory comprises of most of the current assets. The quick assets are very low as compared to current liabilities and hence render the company low on liquidity. Oroton has a better quick ratio throughout which shows its stronger liquidity position. Debt Ratio The ratio measures the percentage of companys assets that have been financed by debt. The debt ratio of Kathmandu has decreased over the three years. The debt levels of the company reduced in 2016. Most of the companys assets are financed through equity. However, the debt ratio of Kathmandu is higher as compared to Oroton. Oroton has not debt at all in 2014 and 2016. All assets are financed through equity. Though this makes the company stable but as a result the company is not leveraged. Cash Conversion Cycle It is the time taken to convert purchase into sales and is comprised of days inventory outstanding, days sales outstanding and days payables outstanding. The cash conversion cycle of Kathmandu has decreased over the period. This is because of decrease in inventory levels owing to the demand planning software. Also the days payables have increased leading to a lower cash cycle. The company has low sales outstanding which means it recovers its debts very quickly. In comparison to Kathmandu, Oroton has a longer cash conversion cycle basically because of higher days sales outstanding. Also the days payables outstanding have decreased. Recommendations Based on the above ratios, we see that Kathmandu has higher profitability. In terms of liquidity and capital structure, Oroton has better solvency both short term and long term. Also Oroton has better asset utilization capacities. However, Kathmandu has a better working capital management as it has a lower cash conversion cycle and its implementation of the demand planning software will further improve the working capital. It is recommended that a potential investor should go for Kathmandu Limited because of better profit margins and also it is expected that the company will improve its liquidity with low inventory. The debt ratio of Oroton looks better but no debt deprives the company of tax benefits related to interest. Thus, Kathmandu is highly recommended. Bibliography Finance.Yahoo. (n.d.). Drug Abuse And Reprocussions Thereof Essay Example For Students
Drug Abuse And Reprocussions Thereof Essay Facing everyday problemsin these recent years many people turn to drugs as an escape from the existance they hold. Drug use has rapidly increased in the last twenty years and has become a national crises. More people are experementing with different drugs at a younger age. Due to the rapid increase in drug abuse our government has looked to rehab as an alternative to jail. When a person thinks of a drug abuser one usually pictures a person that looks like thay had just jumped out of a garbage bin. What most people do not realize is that most drug offenders are the people one spends a lot of time with. Everyday humans are abusing drugs without anyone recognizing their illness (Phillips 22). Many symptoms of drug abuse are easily recognisable. Weight loss or malnutrition are the most common, resulting when the drug abuser uses their money to pay for drugs rather than food. Exhaustion is associated with the end f a recent drug binge. Fever is caused when a stimulant or a hallucinogen increases the drug users metabolic rate. A skin flush usually accompanys the fever. Gooseflesh and sweating are associated with withdrawl and rashes, dilated pupils, and a runny nose are usually correlate with any drug use (Cohen 308-309). Along with these symptoms come the various different reprocussions affiliating themselves with each different drug taken. These results range from headaches to death. With all the possible side effects one may wonder why people think drugs are worth all the trouble they are. Most people start out doing drugs to feel good or to fit in. Early users had easy access to medicine that made them physically dependent on that drug and others used drugs as an only escape from a hopeless existance (Comptons 275). Teenagers experiment with drugs to find out about the world thay live in for themselves, to prove their self worth, and to experience as much as possible. They want to try something daring to prove their oun fearlessness, to have fun, act older, or to be accepted (Phillips 22). In the 1950smore people af all classes and occupations began to use mood changing drugs both legally and illegally (Comptons 275). These drugs were used to induce sleep and relaxation. Other drugs gave the user a feeling on exileration. Whether the drug was used to help the user sleep or the get the person high, they all effect the persons nervous system and cause an emotional change (275). People experimented with different drugs to gain the good, well-centered feeling that is associted with getting high. The problem presented with this effect is that when the drug wears off the person is left with the same problems concerning their life as when they took the drug. This causes many users to take more of the drug to further escape the harsh reality of thier life. This taking and wearing off of the drug creates in the person a psychological dependancy to the drug which causes that person to want to do anything in their ability to get the drug and make that drug a part of their life (275). The most common drugs experimented with at the young ages of eight to fifteen are tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana. These drugs are commonly called the gateway drugs and are considered the easiest to obtain. Most young people get started taking drugs with older friends who offered the drugs to them. With their desperete attempt to fit in these adolescent teenagers will take the drug without giving any thought to the effects on the body. Drug abuse has a great impact on the growth rate of an young human being. Because the body and mind of a young person has not reached full maturity, taking drugs will inhibit the natural growth of both. The younger the person the easier it is for them to become addicted. Dress Codes EssayWith the solution to drug abuse seen as rehabilation there was a new question presented. The question on how to get people convicted of drug abuse interested in thier programs. What was found was a greater enthusiam than expected. After ordered into either residential or out-patient treatment the drug offender goes through the initial withdrawal symptoms (Woodcook). After the first terrifying part of withdrawal over the drug abuser is able to find out what it is like to be drug free again. A desire to stay abstinant is surpiisingly the main reason for success in rehabilation facilities. During the rehabilation process the drug offender will be tought all there is to know about their drug and all the alternatives to taking the drug. A helping hand to the recovery process is work. Any type of gratifying work that will keep the offenders mind off their addiction is acceptable. Not only does this oppurtunity give the drug offender an alternative to doing drugs but it a lso helps the drug offenter lose contact with their drug friends, keep his or her mind off the drugs that, until then, controlled their life, and helps the drug offender make new, clean friends (Cohen 308-309). This also encourages the offender to stay clean. There are times this process does not work. In that case the drug offender is sent back to jail.
